Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has assured Ghanaians that government will not borrow to finance the construction of the Accra-Kumasi Expressway.

He said the full funding required for the project would be available by December 2026 through domestic financing.

Speaking at the handover of the 175.6-kilometre right-of-way for the project on Monday, September 14, Dr Ato Forson said government had made arrangements to mobilise the needed resources without relying on external borrowing.

“For the avoidance of doubt, we will not borrow a pesewa for this construction,” he stressed.

According to him, the project will help reduce travel time and transport costs, improve road safety and set a new standard for infrastructure delivery.

The assurance comes as government prepares to move into the construction phase of the 198.7-kilometre Accra-Kumasi Expressway.

The project is expected to improve the movement of people and goods between Accra and Kumasi while easing pressure on the existing road network.
