Majority Leader in Parliament and Member of Parliament for Suame in the Ashanti Region, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has called the bluff of the minority members on the Appointments Committee.
This comes after some minority members on the appointment committee asked Supreme Court Judge nominee, Justice Clemence Jackson Honyenuga questions on his alleged endorsement of President Akufo Addo during Monday’s vetting.
Supreme Court Judge nominee Justice Clemence Jackson Honyenuga, who is also a paramount Chief of Nyagbo traditional area made some comments, which the Minority members on the Appointments Committee described as politically suggestive.
Justice Clemence Jackson Honyenuga is said to have commended President Nana Akufo Addo for his impressive performance when the latter visited the Volta Region in February 2020.
In an interview with Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka FM’s ‘AM Drive’, Majority Leader in Parliament and Member of Parliament for Suamae in the Ashanti Region, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu who seems unhappy with the behavior of the Minority enquired if there was a correlation between Chieftaincy and fair judgement with the latter being the committee’s topmost priority
“The person in question as at that time was speaking on behalf of paramount chiefs of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs and did not intend to indulge in politics as purported. What link has chieftaincy got do with judgement free from discrimination, dishonesty, impartial and in conformity with legitimate rules and standards of the laws of the land? There are two different spheres. I don’t get it ? Which chief will chase away developmental projects? I don’t see anything wrong with the statement because he spoke as a chief and not a Judge”, he said.
Meanwhile, Supreme Court Judge Nominee Justice Clemence Jackson Honyenuga has apologized to any political party or political groups who were offended with the statement he read on behalf the Chiefs and people of Afadjato.
