The Greater Accra Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Daniel Parker Odarlai France, has disclosed that a team of elders has been constituted by the Constituency Chairman for Ayawaso Central, Bismark Boateng to facilitate a competitive but healthy contest between the former Greater Accra Youth Organizer of the party, Moses Abor and the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Henry Quartey.
The Ayawaso Central seat has been for the New Patriotic Party since 1996, but a survey by Global Info Analytics predicts doom for the NPP if the current MP, Henry Quartey wins. It is alleged that the MP is not on good terms with some polling station executives as some were dragged before court over alleged defamatory social media posts.
Moses Abor who has been an Assemblyman in the area for over a decade and the Regional Youth Organizer of the Party believes his experience and good name in the party can help the party retain the seat.
The former Greater Accra Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Archibald Cobbina, who is also a good candidate and showed up several times has been appointed MCE for Ayawaso Central – a position which disqualifies him from contesting.
Speaking on Atinka TV’s Oman Mu Nsem show hosted by Nana Owoahene, Parker France, said, the regional executives are not interested in seeing any contestant go unopposed, and warned that protecting sitting was not a good strategy.
“If Moses wins, we will win. If any of them wins, we will win Ayawaso Central again. Henry Quartey has built a very good name, but Moses also has an ambition and he must be allowed to exercise his democratic right. A team formed by the regional chairman is engaging Moses Abor, but if he wants to contest, it is his right. Anyone that wins the contest, I am assuring you that we will win that seat again, ” he said.
“Don’t step on people’s toes, they will come after you. Don’t expect the regional headquarters to block anyone. We will not protect anybody. if you are an MP and you want to continue your term, try and bring together all persons trying to contest you closer. Don’t hate them. We have seen people who think they can do without some people but end up flat on the ground. We have over a week to election and if you think you are interested in going again and the person contesting you will harm you, try and bring them closer to you, talk to them,” he advised.
“All we need in Greater Accra is unity and trust me, we will deliver in the 2024 election,”. Parker France assured.
