Women advised to go for pregnancy school-Nurse

A Public Health Nurse at the Kaneshie Polyclinic, Hilda Atitso has advised women to attend a pregnancy school, in order to have more knowledge about pregnancy.

According to her, pregnant women did not have enough time at the hospital when they went for the antenatal, while others did not go on time at; a situation she said contributed to the maternal the mortality rate in Ghana.

Speaking on Atinka TV’s Flagship morning show, Ghana Nie, Hilda Atitso explained that the Ghana Health Service (GHS), as part of measures to reduce maternal mortality rate in the country introduced the pregnancy school to help educate pregnant women more on pregnancy and how to come out safe.

“When they visit the hospital for antenatal, sometimes the time is not enough to learn a lot about pregnancy, therefore they need to participate in the pregnancy school,” she said.

Meanwhile, Hilda Atitso said that the initiative was being implemented in all the districts across the country with a scheduled time table at the various centres, for women who lived both in the cities and rural areas in order for every pregnant woman to have access to it.

She then urged pregnant women to participate in the pregnancy in order to have a broader knowledge about pregnancy.

“It is very good and therefore all pregnant women, caretakers, even husbands should engage in the pregnancy school,” she added.
