Youth encouraged to actively participate in democratic processes

The Director for Research and policy Africa Centre for Democracy and Socioeconomic Development (CDS Africa), Dr Abena Boateng, has encouraged Ghanaian youth to actively partake in Ghana’s Democratic Processes.

Dr Abena Boateng made the statement when the Africa Centre for Democracy and Socioeconomic Development (CDS Africa) organized Youth Democracy Forum at the Wisconsin International University College in Accra.

Speaking on the side with Atinka News’ Vivian Adu, Dr Abena Boateng made a passionate call on the Ghanaian youth to develop interest and fully participate in the country’s democratic process this she said will help them derive the needed benefits.

“I will encourage the youth to get close to the Electoral commission office or the closest NCCE office and let them know that you want to study the democratic processes by volunteering. This is non-partisan and it will help you gain work experience which will be good for your CV,”  Dr Abena Boateng added.

Touching on the motive for the forum, Dr Abena Boateng said the Youth Democracy Forum is to sensitize the youth especially students about the importance of democracy and the need for their full participation.

She revealed that when the youth partake in the democratic processes it enhances their knowledge in politics, governance as prepare them for future opportunities.

Also speaking at the event the key note speaker, Prof. Alidu Seidu’s, Head of the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana explained the differences of participation as regards to democracy and the democratic processes.

He called on the youth to select and defend democratic values, engage in the democratic process, and always select from among the numerous channels of dispute resolution accessible to them in times of need, such as voting, lawful protests, the legal system, and protests.
