41,418 health workers were employed under my watch – Mahama

Former President and Flagbearer of the Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama says his administration employed the largest number of health professionals.
Mr. Mahama in a Digital Conversation with Ghanaians on Health Care & Infrastructure said his government was able to employ 41,418 nurses in the Health sector before leaving Office.
According to him, the number of nurses as at 2012 stood at 11,125 but the NDC government increased it to 52,605 as at 2016 when he was leaving office.
He indicated that, the Ghana Health Service as it stands now, requires an additional 86,000 health professionals to fill the lapses.
“If we prioritize properly, and reduce the large army of ministers and other political appointees, we could probably create more space to accommodate some of our nurses and doctors who are sitting idle at home.
“We have done it before with the limited resources available to us, my administration employed the largest number of health professionals in recent times,” he added.
