The Minority in Parliament has vowed to prosecute the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Ernest Addison and his two deputies.
This comment is in line with the protest by the Minority in Parliament today, October 3, 2023. The protest is aimed at compelling the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Ernest Addison and his two deputies to resign over the illegal printing of about GH¢ 80 billion between 2021 and 2022 which contributed to an inflation rate of 54.1% in December 2022.
The minority claims the BOG has mismanaged the finances of the country, resulting in hyper-inflation and pushing thousands into poverty.
Speaking to pressmen during the protest, Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said the minority will not relent but will make sure that the Governor of Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison and his deputies are prosecuted.
“When he resigns it sends a clear message that when you are given the opportunity to hold public office and you mismanage, you totally violate laws. You destroy livelihoods. You will suffer the consequences because his resignation is only the first in our demands after that we will make sure he is prosecuted,” Mr. Ablakwa stated.
The lawmaker lauded Mahama Ayariga for taking the first step in that regard by petitioning the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
“But as long as we want to be a law-abiding country and a Constitutional republic, people must suffer the consequences of their actions. That is why we insist as a first step the governor and his deputies must go for their gross mismanagement and for the frightening level of corruption, for their ineptitude. And as a second stage, we will make sure that they are prosecuted,” he added.
