The Ghana Police Service has stepped up enforcement against the unauthorised use of sirens, horns, strobe lights, improvised headlamps and other illegal vehicle modifications in the Ashanti Region.

The special operation, carried out by the Ashanti Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), targeted motorists at the Airport Roundabout and Santasi Roundabout in Kumasi.

The exercise was conducted with support from the Central MTTD in Accra and a team from the Police National Headquarters.

According to the Police, the operation also focused on the unlawful use of road shoulders and verges by drivers.

A total of 188 vehicles were intercepted for various traffic offences during the exercise. Officers removed and seized unauthorised devices and improvised headlamps fitted to some vehicles.

The affected drivers were educated on the Road Traffic Regulations and cautioned to comply with the law.

The Ghana Police Service said similar enforcement exercises will be carried out across the country as part of efforts to improve discipline, safety and order on the nation’s roads.
