The Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana (IEAG) has welcomed a High Court ruling that allows the Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA) to enforce its Container Administrative Charge (CAC) directive.
The court dismissed an application by the Ship Owners and Agents Association of Ghana (SOAAG) and some shipping lines seeking to stop the directive. The ruling means the GSA’s decision to cap the Container Administrative Charge at GH¢720 per Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit (TEU) remains valid.
The IEAG praised the decision, saying it would reduce the cost of doing business and protect importers and exporters from excessive charges. The association also called on the GSA to ensure that all shipping lines obey the directive.
It further urged the Authority to refund importers and exporters who were charged more than the approved amount after the directive took effect on May 11, 2026.
The IEAG said the ruling is a major step towards fairness, transparency and stronger regulation in Ghana’s shipping industry.
