The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) and Deputy National Elections Director of the NDC, Sofo Tanko Rashid Computer, says the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is not worried about the former NPP National Chairman Paul Afoko declaring his intensions to contest for the chairmanship of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking on Newsroom on Bullet TV hosted by Micheal Addo, Sofo Tanko said the NDC is closely monitoring developments within the NPP but believes the opposition party is deeply divided.

He claimed the current NPP is being controlled by a particular group and argued that recent internal decisions have created disunity within the party. He also criticised the party’s internal election process, saying it contributed to the defeat of several of its own executives.

Reacting to Paul Afoko’s possible return, Sofo Tanko said the NDC is prepared to face any candidate the NPP elects as national chairman. He expressed confidence that the governing party’s performance under President John Dramani Mahama would give it an advantage in the next general election.

He further said interest in the NDC has grown significantly, pointing to the competitive nature of the party’s ongoing branch elections. According to him, professionals, lecturers and other qualified individuals are joining the party’s grassroots structures, a development he believes reflects growing public confidence in the NDC and could translate into a stronger showing in the next national elections.
