Preparations for the final funeral rites of the late founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission, Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, are underway at Mporta despite an interim injunction granted by the Accra High Court.
Speaking on Atinka TV’s Ghana Nie morning show with Ama Gyenfa Ofosu-Darkwah, spokesperson for former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, Mr. Seth Kofi Osei Kissi, said Adwoa Safo had not informed him that she had received any court documents relating to the injunction.
According to him, funeral activities are scheduled to begin today, with members of the Safo family, the children of the late industrialist, and the Kristo Asafo Mission taking responsibility for the arrangements.
Mr. Osei Kissi stressed that the funeral is being organized by the family and the church to honour the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.
His comments come after the Accra High Court granted a 10-day interim injunction restraining Adwoa Safo from proceeding with the funeral and burial arrangements.
Lawyer for the Kristo Asafo Mission, Nana Kofi Safo Kantanka, said the court granted the order following an application filed by the Mission in connection with issues surrounding the late Apostle’s estate.
According to him, the injunction temporarily prevents Adwoa Safo from organizing the funeral until the court hears the matter.
The dispute stems from disagreements within the Safo family over who has the legal authority to supervise the funeral arrangements and carry out the late Apostle’s final wishes.
The funeral, originally scheduled for Jtoday, uly 30 and 31, 2026, was expected to be suspended following the court’s ruling.
However, in an earlier interview, Adwoa Safo maintained that the funeral would go ahead as planned and urged her brother, Kwadwo Safo Akofena, not to interfere with the arrangements.
The legal dispute is expected to continue after the expiry of the court’s interim order.
