The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the provisional results of candidates who sat for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School Candidates.
In a press release dated July 29, 2026, WAEC announced that the results have been dispatched to schools through Metropolitan, Municipal and District Directors of Education. Candidates who wish to access their results online can also do so via the Council’s official website.
A total of 620,243 candidates sat for this year’s examination, comprising 304,415 males and 315,828 females from 20,789 participating schools across Ghana. The examination was conducted at 2,237 centres nationwide.
Among the candidates were 136 persons with visual impairment, 282 with hearing assessment needs, and 510 candidates who required other forms of test accommodation. WAEC also disclosed that 3,601 candidates were absent from the examination.
Following investigations into cases of examination malpractice, the Council approved a number of sanctions against candidates found to have engaged in irregularities.
WAEC said the subject results of 496 candidates have been cancelled, while the entire results of 105 candidates have also been cancelled. Additionally, the subject results of 119 candidates and the entire results of 48 candidates have been withheld pending further investigations.
The Council further revealed that the subject results of 2,722 candidates from 229 schools have been withheld for additional scrutiny. WAEC stated that the outcome of the investigations will determine whether the results are released or cancelled, with all cases expected to be concluded by August 31, 2026.
Candidates whose results have been cancelled or withheld have been advised to visit WAEC’s irregularity portal to check the reasons for the sanctions and receive guidance on the next steps. Heads of schools and proprietors can also use their results-listing login credentials to monitor the status of affected candidates.
WAEC also cautioned the public against fraudsters who claim they can upgrade examination results for a fee. The Council stressed that its results are secure and can be authenticated, urging candidates and parents not to fall victim to such scams.
The Council expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service, security agencies, heads of schools, supervisors, invigilators, examiners and all stakeholders for their contributions to the successful conduct of the 2026 BECE and the timely release of the results.
