The Department of Public Relations (DPR) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has provided career guidance and mentorship to students of New Age Academy at Chantan in Accra as part of efforts to strengthen civil-military relations and inspire young people to consider careers in the military.
The engagement, held on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, formed part of the school’s Career Day celebrations and gave students the opportunity to learn about the structure, responsibilities and career prospects within the Ghana Armed Forces.
Addressing the students, Sub Lieutenant Wendy Mawunyo Atiayao outlined the key roles of the Ghana Armed Forces in safeguarding the country’s territorial integrity, supporting national development and participating in peacekeeping operations.
She also educated the students on the three Services of the Armed Forces that is; the Army, Navy and Air Force, and explained the various career opportunities available within both the Commissioned and Non-Commissioned ranks. She further highlighted the academic qualifications, recruitment procedures and entry requirements for prospective applicants.
Sub Lieutenant Atiayao encouraged the students to remain focused on their education, uphold discipline and cultivate values such as integrity, patriotism and hard work. She urged them to avoid negative influences that could derail their ambitions, stressing that dedication and perseverance are essential qualities for anyone aspiring to serve in the military.
According to her, the Ghana Armed Forces offers diverse career paths that not only contribute to national security but also provide opportunities for personal and professional development.
The interactive mentorship session allowed students to ask questions about military life, recruitment processes and the responsibilities of personnel serving in different branches of the Armed Forces.
The outreach formed part of the Ghana Armed Forces’ ongoing efforts to deepen engagement with educational institutions, promote positive civil-military relations and encourage young people to pursue meaningful careers in national service.
The initiative also underscored the importance of career guidance in helping students make informed decisions about their future.
