The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has warned residents living along the banks of the White Volta River and other vulnerable waterways to evacuate ahead of a planned spillage of the Bagré Dam in Burkina Faso.
NADMO’s North East Regional Office said authorities of Burkina Faso’s SONABEL had notified it of plans to spill the dam on Friday, August 28, 2026.
The earlier planned spillage had been suspended after the water level in the dam dropped. However, NADMO said the level had risen unexpectedly, prompting the decision to release water.
The agency has consequently urged residents in potentially affected communities to evacuate immediately and remain vigilant.
NADMO also advised the public to follow updates from the organisation and other relevant authorities as the situation develops.
