The Central Regional Executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have expressed support for Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, over concerns about alleged financial losses involving the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod).
Speaking at a press conference at the party’s regional office in Cape Coast on Thursday, August 27, 2026, Regional Secretary Richard Takyi-Mensah said the reported GH¢22 billion loss could not simply be dismissed.
He said the issue had also been raised by several Ghanaians and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), stressing that the key concern was whether the reported loss occurred and where it happened.
Mr Takyi-Mensah said whether the loss was incurred by GoldBod or the Bank of Ghana, the country had suffered financially and deserved clear explanations.
He accused GoldBod Chief Executive Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, of failing to address the substantive concerns raised by the Minority Leader and instead resorting to personal attacks.
The NPP secretary said the party would not remain silent over what he described as insults and attacks against Mr Afenyo-Markin. He insisted that the party would continue to demand accountability on issues of national interest.
The press conference was attended by Regional Chairman Dr Joseph Esibu, other regional executives, party figures and former government appointees, including former Central Regional Minister Marigold Assan.
