Hundreds of market women in Dodowa in the Shai-Osudoku District of the Greater Accra Region are demanding answers from the authorities following the demolition of a temporary market site designated to accommodate traders.
The traders say the development has created confusion and uncertainty over where they will operate, while also exposing them to potential financial losses and disruptions to their livelihoods.
The temporary market site was expected to provide a place for traders to continue their businesses while preparations were made for the construction of the government’s 24-hour market initiative.
However, its demolition has left the affected traders worried about the future of their businesses and the arrangements being made to accommodate them.
The market women subsequently presented a petition to the Shai-Osudoku District Assembly, calling for clarity on the circumstances surrounding the demolition and assurances on where they will operate.
Some of the affected traders spoke to the media after submitting the petition.
Receiving the petition on behalf of the District Chief Executive, the Aide to the DCE, Bosso John Mensah, assured the market women that the authorities would engage with them and work towards addressing their concerns.
