Okudzeto Ablakwa Meets Guyanese Diplomat Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett for UN Reforms Talk

Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has held discussions with Guyanese diplomat and former Foreign Minister Carolyn Allison Rodrigues-Birkett, who is seeking to become the next United Nations Secretary-General.

Mr Ablakwa said the meeting provided an opportunity for Ms Rodrigues-Birkett to share her vision and priorities for the UN’s top leadership position should she succeed in her bid.

He said they also exchanged views on reforms needed to make the United Nations more effective and responsive to the expectations of member states, particularly countries in the Global South.

According to the Foreign Affairs Minister, the discussions focused on how the world’s foremost multilateral organisation can become more “fit for purpose” in addressing global challenges and meeting the legitimate expectations of its members.

Mr Ablakwa expressed Ghana’s best wishes to Ms Rodrigues-Birkett as she pursues the position, describing her as a distinguished Guyanese diplomat and former Foreign Minister.
