Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has supported 2,269 BECE candidates from the constituency who have gained admission to Senior High School (SHS) with essential educational and personal items.
The annual initiative, which has become a tradition of the North Tongu MP, is aimed at ensuring that no BECE candidate is prevented from continuing their education because of a lack of basic school supplies.
This year, all 2,269 newly admitted students received chop boxes, mattresses and exercise books to support their transition from basic school to SHS.
Female beneficiaries were also provided with hygiene products, including tissues and sanitary pads, to support their personal wellbeing as they begin their secondary education.
As part of the support package, Mr Ablakwa also donated bicycles to all 100 newly enrolled day students to help ease their daily commute to and from school.
The MP said the initiative is part of his annual effort to create opportunities for young people in North Tongu while also supporting local businesses and carpenters through the procurement of items for the beneficiaries.
According to him, the programme has been a resounding success over the years and continues to grow as he seeks to ensure that every BECE candidate who gains admission to SHS has the basic items needed to start school.
Mr Ablakwa congratulated the 2,269 BECE candidates on their achievement and urged them to take their studies seriously and make North Tongu proud in their respective schools.
