Sekondi MCE should have followed traffic rules – Lawyer

A General Legal Practitioner, Lawyer Francis Acquah-Annan has said that the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Sekondi Takoradi in the Western Region, Abdul-Mumin Issah should have followed the queue in traffic because he does not qualify to use a siren, especially at the moment he did.

He said if the MCE had genuine reasons to drive through without following the traffic, he should have made the police know about those exceptional duties.

Lawyer Francis Acquah-Annan said the police could have allowed him go if he explained to them that he had exceptional cases.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Sekondi Takoradi in the Western Region, Abdul-Mumin Issah, was arrested by the Police for “Dangerous Driving” and alleged assault on a police officer.”

After he was arrested and sent to court, a Takoradi circuit Court, presided over by his Honour, Michael Ampedu granted bail to the MCE to the tune of GHC100,000 with three sureties.

He was charged on two separate cases; First, charges of assault on a public officer, offensive conduct and disturbing the peace of the public place were leveled against him.

Secondly, the MCE was also charged for careless and inconsiderate driving, causing danger to road and He pleaded not guilty to both charges.

He is to reappear in court on 17th March, 2022.

Meanwhile, a day after the video of what transpired between the MCE and the Police circulated on social media, the MCE was suspended.

Speaking on Atinka TV‘s monring show, Ghana Nie with Ekourba Gyasi Simpremu, Lawyer Francis Acquah Annan said the public should not make conclusions with the videos circulating because it could be just part of what actually happened on the grounds, adding that at the end of investigations, the public will know the whole truth.
