Police, land guards accused of killing Miotso kingmaker; IGP petitioned

0

Family of the late Francis Tetteh Botchwey, 69, a Kingmaker of the Miotso Traditional area within the Ningo Prampram District of the Greater Accra Region, who was gruesomely murdered by suspected police officers with the aid of some land guards on the 29th of December 2016, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, David Asante Apeatu.

The family wants the police administration  to as a matter of urgency ensure the arrest and prosecution of all persons involved in the murder of their kinsman. .

BACKGROUND

It would be recalled that on the Friday the 29th of December 2016, the late Francis Botchwey was allegedly murdered in cold blood by police officers from the Tema Regional Police Command with the aid of some suspected land guards from Dawhenya enclave, another suburb of the Ningo Prampram District.

Events leading to the murder of Mr Francis Botchwey who was killed together with his employee in his uncompleted building, after he had gone there to inspect the progress of work on the building, was as a result of earlier skirmishes perpetrated by some suspected land guards from Dawhenya.

The land guards were allegedly sent there to terrorise residents over a longstanding land dispute in the Miotso Township.

The said disputed land was duly contested in court by the Miotso traditional area led by the late Francis Botchwey and won with a ruling in their favour.

Eyewitness accounts gave a vivid picture of how eight policemen who were dispatched to the scene to restore calm and order, managed to trail the late Francis Tetteh Botchwey,(who had been the target of the land guards, to his uncompleted building with the aid of some suspected land guards who had been arrested by the police earlier on for their role in the violence.

They [land guards]  were placed at the "bucket of a police pick-up and  allegedly shot Francis  with the excuse that he was mistaken for a suspected armed land gaurd operative".

Police report on the matter is fraught with several inconsistencies  as it claimed that the late kingmaker had a gun in his possession and had wanted to attack them, whereas the account of some eye witnesses and that of some  private detectives mandated to investigate the case proved contrary.

The late Francis Botchwey

Unanswered questions:

It's been almost two years now since the murder of Francis Botchwey, 69 who left behind 8 children and two wives, and yet the police have failed to even haul before court and prosecute the 12 suspects who were arrested in connection to the murder.

Despite concrete evidence provided to the police on suspected land guards who had caused the earlier skirmishes that led to the death of Mr Francis Botchwey, nothing has been done or said by the police.

A recent directive from the IGP to the police administration to interrogate personnel including the then former Tema Regional police commander DCOP Awini, Director of Operations COP John Kudalor( who later became IGP) accused of compromising their offices in the matter,  is yet to be followed or adhered to.

Oh man, thou art fallibe!

0

I meet infallible people often on Saturdays. Dressed in spotless tuxedos, they don’t talk. They don’t engage in any conversation. As humble as they seem, they don’t reply any comment made at them; whether good or bad. These infallible people are soon packaged into graves where they’ll exist for the rest of their stay on earth because they are corpses!

Perfect people don’t talk lest they offend others. They don’t walk lest they step on others’ toes. They don’t stare at anyone lest others take offense. Perfect people are perfect because they do no wrong. What they do all day and night is to lie in a grave minding their own business.

No living man is perfect. If one wants to marry a perfect spouse, thus, they might as well marry a corpse. If they want to be perfect themselves, they might as well wait till death confers such an honor on them because as long as they have life, they would offend others as much as others will offend them. As long as they breathe, they’d have one weakness or another to battle with.

Admitting our imperfection humbles us. It reminds us that no matter how gifted we may be, we are still like others. Admitting how fallible we are will caution us not to laud our power over others because just as we are, so are they.

In last week’s edition of this column, I made a grave error. “Fishes have lungs [instead of gills]. Man doesn’t,” I wrote. I smiled when an ardent reader drew my attention. It pointed to how fallible I was, no matter how critically I tried to avoid errors. It stressed that inasmuch as I strived for perfection, I was also a man… and men are fallible!

Our favorite men of God should know they are fallible men. Our star politicians ought to know they haven’t got it all figured out. Our bosses in our workplaces should know that inasmuch as they try to create an air of fear and respect around them, they are just as men as those they lead. Our fathers and husbands should be reminded that they may not always be right because to err is human.

When I read of respectable people in society allegedly condescending into the gutters to do all sorts of wrong, I don’t get surprised anymore. I make sure not to jump onto the bandwagon of their defenders or accusers because I know that as long as earth is their home, they have fallibility running in their veins. As long as they are men, they won’t be gods!

Perfection barely exists on earth. Our pastors are not perfect. Needless to deify them. Our spiritual leaders are not any better men than we are. They can sometimes be wrong.

Admitting that we have a weakness is not an excuse to do wrong. Accepting that we have a frailty doesn’t mean we should go about inflicting pain on others. We must work out our weaknesses as much as possible. It is possible to overcome when we make appreciable efforts to.

Human as we are, we must be willing to apologize when we hurt others. As human as we are, we must be responsible for our wrongs and work at not repeating them. We must forgive ourselves and others when we act irresponsibly. It is only when we perceive ourselves as infallible men that we can barely forgive ourselves when we commit errors.

You see, you will never find a perfect spouse neither can you be a perfect spouse. You can only find a person whose nonsense you can contain and they may be compatible with you because your shortcomings will not drive them nuts. You can only find a man or woman whose weakness is within levels you can accommodate; not an immaculate human being. Marriage is two imperfect people trying to contain each other’s imperfection under one roof!

You will never find a perfect boss and you’ll never be a perfect boss either. You’ll never find a perfect job and should you be an employer, your job will never be perfect. Our imperfection should not make us mediocre. However, it shouldn’t make us to be too hard on ourselves.

Humility is when we remember that no matter the height God lifts us to, we are just as fallible as those at the bottom. Humility is to remember that despite all of one’s accolade, we still have a weakness that is a work in progress. Work hard at those weaknesses!

When those we hold in high esteem fault, we should take it easy on them because they are men. When they disappoint us by their deeds, we should be ready to forgive them. No man is spotless. That’s why “fallible man” is tautology!

Zimbabwe court upholds President Mnangagwa's election win

0

President Emmerson Mnangagwa's win in last month's polls has been upheld by Zimbabwe's Constitutional Court.

The opposition MDC Alliance had brought the legal challenge saying the vote was marred by "mammoth theft and fraud", but this was rejected by the court.

Delivering the verdict, Chief Justice Luke Malaba called allegations of tampering "bold and unsubstantiated".

It was Zimbabwe's first election since long-time leader Robert Mugabe was ousted from power last year.

Two days after the vote, at least six people were killed in clashes between the army and MDC Alliance supporters, who alleged that party leader Nelson Chamisa had been robbed of victory.

Ahead of the court ruling, the streets around the courthouse in the capital, Harare, were cordoned off by security forces.

The BBC's Shignai Nyoka in Harare says that the city's roads are empty.

Chief Justice Malaba said he had ruled against the opposition's petition because it lacked "specificity" and failed to meet "the requisite standard of proof".

"The best evidence would have been the contents of the ballot boxes themselves," he said.

Asantehene calls for detailed Chieftaincy inclusion in Ghana's constitution

0

The Asantehene, Otumfuor Osei Tutu Ababio II, has called on the Speaker of Parliament,Prof. Mike Aaron Oquaye,to help initiate a process  to make provision for the chiefs and the chieftaincy institution to have a defind role in the Ghanaian  constitution.

Otumfuor Osei Tutu made this plea at the 75th remembrance ceremony for  the late Okyehene, Nana Sir Ofori Atta I, in Kyebi in the Eastern Region.

According to him, the over reliance on foreign culture has dimmed Ghana's  indigenous culture.According to him, an evaluation of the 1992 constitution to give chiefs, traditional rulers and Queen mothers a say in the country’s governance will help chiefs shape up the decision-making process and encourage an inclusive government.

The Okyehene,Osagyefo  Amoatia Ofori Panin, used the opportunity to express his gratitude to the Asantehene for honouring his invitation which is historic.

In attendance was the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Akufo Addo who is a native and Royal  of Kyebi, Speaker of Parliament Mike Aaron Oquaye, former President Jerry  John Rawlings and his wife ,Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, as well as other government officials.

Both the Okyehene and Asantehene in their respective speeches reiterated that there is no bad blood between the Asantes and Akyems as perceived.

10 tips for guys on how to make your girlfriend feel like a princess

0

Your girlfriend is special to you and you love her. As you know, however, showing her how much she means to you and treating her like a princess isn’t always easy. Trying is important. All girls want to be reminded that their man loves them. They want to be shown how beautiful they are in the eyes of their man. Indeed, for girls, there is no better feeling than when our Prince Charming treats us like his very own Princess! Problem is … what does Princesses get treated like!? Let’s take a look at 10 tips for guys on how to make your girlfriend happy and make her feel like the princess she is.

Be Random With Your Compliments

Are you the kind of guy always waits for her to compliment you before you compliment her? Your girlfriend: “You’re so handsome and I can’t believe you’re mine.” You: “You’re gorgeous and I can’t believe you’re mine.” That’s all well and good. But girls love it when you make the first move with a compliment, because we’re more sure that it’s come from your heart and that you genuinely mean it. Don’t wait until she’s showing you her new dress, either. Don’t wait for her to say something smart or witty. Surprise her with a compliment when she least expects it. Perhaps you could tell her how beautiful she is while the two of you are falling asleep in front of the television, for example.

Put Yourself In Her Shoes

How many times has she come to you, upset and looking for advice? And how many times have you failed to understand where she’s coming from? Admittedly, it can sometimes be hard for a guy to see things from a girl’s point of view, especially when he thinks she just needs to “man up” and get on with things. But your girl isn’t crying for attention. She genuinely just wants you to understand her. From now on, have some empathy. Put an arm around her, talk to her in the tone of voice she’s talking to you in. Don’t get excited, and don’t even try to give her advice. Just listen to her, be present, let her talk, and see things from her point of view.

Put Her First

Guys, we know you like your weekends. We know most of you look forward to sports, beers and seeing your buddies. But the easiest way to make her feel like a pauper? Put her last at the weekend. Make plans with your buddies first, and give her an hour or two of your Saturday. Not cool.

If you want to make her feel like a princess, you have to treat her like one – and this means putting her first, especially at the weekend. Ask her what her plans are. What does she want to do this weekend with you? Hey, maybe she’ll be busy. But whatever you do, make sure she knows she’s your priority most of the time. Guys, you’re allowed to see your friends. But your girl needs to know that she’s number one.

Do Things For Her

Want to treat her like a princess? Then be her hero! This is really simple. If she needs help with something, be the man who’s going to help her. She needs a lightbulb changing? Come to her rescue! Changing lightbulbs might not sound like something out of a fairytale, but it’ll turn you into her prince.

Be A Man

To be her prince, you need to be a man. Be the guy who protects her, who makes her feel safe, who is loyal, who works hard, and who treats her with respect. That’s what a prince does for his princess.

Pay Her Attention

Hey, she knows that sometimes you won’t always be able to see her. Life gets in the way. It sucks, but we deal with it. As such, what’s more important than how often you see her is that you pay her plenty of attention when you do see her. Put your phone away and give her your undivided attention. Shower her with compliments, kiss her, hug her – don’t take your eyes off her. Let her know you’re here for her and her only.

Make An Effort To See Her

Girls get really disheartened when we think our man isn’t putting in any kind of reasonable effort to see her. We don’t care that the traffic is bad and so it’s not worth your time coming over. We don’t care that you’ve gotta work a bit later and so can’t see us tonight. MAKE THE EFFORT. You have time. Go the extra yard. Do all that you can to see her. That’s how you treat her like a princess.

Buy Her Things

No, girls are not that materialistic. But we live in the real world and we like nice things. When we have a man who isn’t generous with his money and doesn’t buy us anything? It gives us the impression that he doesn’t care. A real prince would treat his woman well, lavishing her with gifts that make her feel special, loved and wanted.

Take Her Out

She won’t feel like much of a princess if she’s stuck at home all the time, cooking dinner, watching Netflix and doing the washing. So take her out more! Book a table at an expensive restaurant, spend a night in a hotel, go on a spontaneous road trip. Make her life unpredictable and exciting. Not got the money? Take her out for moonlit strolls with coconut lattes. Use your imagination.

Be Dependable

Lastly, just be dependable. Again, it might not sound like something out of a romance novel o a fairytale, but for a girl to feel like a princess, she has to be able to depend on you. Be the guy who is always there for her. She wants to call you at 2am? You’re there. You’re always on time, and you always show up.

Arsene Wenger meets namesake in Liberia

0

Arsene Wenger received a hero's welcome on Thursday after arriving in Liberia to receive the country's highest award.

The former Arsenal manager is being honored by the country's president, George Weah, who Wenger signed in 1988 during his time as Monaco manager.

Weah, who was elected president of his country last year, will honour the former Arsenal manager and another French soccer coach, Claude Le Roy, at a ceremony on Friday after they both played crucial roles in his career.

Wenger signed Weah in the late 1980s, kickstarting a career in which the Liberian would go on to play for Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan, and became the first and still only African to win the FIFA world player of the year award in 1995.

The 68-year-old was greeted at the country's international airport in Harbel by hundreds of fans in Arsenal shirts, as well as the Liberian minister of youth and sports, Zoegar Wilson.

The plan to honour Wenger with the West African country's highest award has criticised by opposition politicians on Wednesday.

Liberian sports minister D. Zeogar Wilson said Wenger will be given the Humane Order of African Redemption with the rank of Knight Grand Commander.

But Darius Dillon, an opposition politician, criticised Weah for using the nation's highest honour and the office of the president to recognize people who only played a role in his "personal life."

"The nation's highest honour cannot be given to somebody who has not done something directly for the country," Dillion said.

Other political opponents of Weah have also questioned the decision. Emmanuel Gonquoi of the Economic Freedom Fighters of Liberia called it "a complete waste of time."

Weah is Liberia's best sportsman ever and the golden years of his career coincided with civil war in Liberia.

Weah dedicated his award to Wenger when he was named world player of the year and has said the former Arsenal coach was the most important influence on his career. He invited Wenger to his inauguration as president in January, although Wenger couldn't attend.

Wenger has also previously praised Weah: "The life of this guy is a real film," Wenger said early this year. "It's unbelievable. It can make a fantastic film."

The 51-year-old Weah retired from soccer in 2003 and turned almost immediately to politics, failing in his first attempt to become president of Liberia in 2005.

Windows 95 application launched

0

For kids of a certain era, Windows 95 was part of our first experience with computers.

If the relatively ancient operating system still holds a special place in your heart, you'll be glad to know that it's available as an app for Mac, Windows and Linux.

Put together by Slack dev Felix Rieseberg, the 129mb file downloadable from GitHub allows you to reminisce on the old days of MS Paint and wasting time on Solitaire.

The operating system is encased in electron, a framework for building cross-platform apps with HTML and CSS.

There are, of course, some things that don't work. Minesweeper doesn't really let you do the sweeping, and Internet Explorer won't let you surf the net — as it simply doesn't connect to the web.

As Rieseberg suggests, if you were hoping to run Doom, you're probably better off doing it through an actual virtualization app, but it surprisingly does work. He admits it only worked well "by accident and was mostly a joke."

The app still seems to work better than the Windows 95 copy installed on an Apple Watch, which takes about an hour to run.

As you'd figure, running Windows 95 these days is mostly just for a laugh.
