Suspect in Royal Motors robbery arrested; 2 wanted suspects shot dead

0

The Accra Regional Police say they have arrested one suspect in connection with a daring daylight robbery at Royal Motors at the North Industrial Area last Tuesday.

The suspect popularly known as Bebe was apprehended by the police at a hide-out at Ashalaja a suburb of Accra.

The regional commander DCOP George Alex Mensah who revealed this at a press conference Friday also said two armed robbery suspects on the police most wanted list have been gunned down in a shoot-out at an undisclosed location.

The two, Raymond and Kwame alias Mafia, the police say, were wanted for crimes at a filling station at Agbogba, some break-ins at Forex Bureaus at Spintex.

Raymond alias Dragon is also suspected to have participated in the Kwabenya police station attack that freed seven inmates.

Dragon has also been linked to robberies at Oyibi where 16 robberies have been recorded in a month.

According to DCOP George Mensah one police officer sustained a gunshot wound in his palm. His men fought back and killed the two.

"I am not ready to lose any of my men" he defended the application of lethal, fatal force.

He also said two suspects have been arrested in Accra after they snatched cars in Kumasi in the Ashanti region. Police officers feigned interest in buying the cars which had been brought to Accra for sale, he said.

The revelations are the latest in Operation Calm Life, a police operation to clamp down on criminal activities following a dramatic escalation in the month of January alone.

In brief remarks after the Friday prayers, Vice President Bawumia indicated that President Akufo-Addo is receiving up to the minute briefings on the situation and government would provide the necessary logistics and resources to the security agencies to ensure there is peace and stability.

“I want to assure the general public that the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is fully apprised of developments and what is going on. I’m in constant contact with him and the recent spate of armed robberies, which are of concern to everybody is of concern to him, and this is why we are taking the measures that we are taking to restore the stability and security of this nation.

Police shakeup not influenced by recent robbery attacks – ACP Eklu

The Director of Public Affairs for the Ghana Police Service, ACP David Eklu, says the changes made to the command structure of  the Service is a  normal practice and not in response to the current robbery attacks.

The Inspector General of Police on 1st March 2018 made changes to the command structure of the Service which has been attributed to the upsurge of violent crime in the capital.

The Eastern Regional Police commander DCOP Simon Afeku is now the substantive Director General of Police Operations, which was previously headed by Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.

COP Christian Tetteh Yohunu has been moved from Director General in charge of Special Duties to Director General in Charge of Police Intelligence.

In an interview with Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive Friday, ACP David Eklu explained that the timing of the changes in command positions in the service coincided with the spate of robbery attacks in the capital hence the  erroneous assertion.

Commenting on calls for some particular officers like COP Kofi Boakye to  be  reassigned to  fight the robbers, ACP David Eklu stated that the Police Service is not built on personalities.

“People may have their own views but the appointed persons are equally competent and have the right resources to work efficiently.

45 illegal siren users fined

0

A total of 45 drivers have been fined GHC 25,710 by the Accra Motor courts for abusing the use of siren in the Accra Metropolis.

The exercise was conducted by the Central Motor Traffic and Transport unit (MTTU) Special Task Force on private vehicles which have been fitted  with unauthorised sirens.

A statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs for the Ghana Police Service, ACP David Eklu, said the drivers were arrested misusing siren and hazard lights to beat traffic with some driving on the opposite direction of the road, posing danger to other road users.

They were arrested at Airport Aviation, spintex, Pokuase, Amasaman and Accra central between 1st and 19th January this year, the statement said.

The Legislative Instrument (LI) 2180 of the Road Traffic Regulation 74 (2) states that a person shall not fit on a motor vehicle warning appliance other than the type approved by the licensing Authority.

Any person who contravenes the regularities, is liable to a fine of not more than 25 penalty units or to a term of imprisonment of not more than thirty days or both.

The Police said the exercise is ongoing to bring sanity to the roads and drivers are being cautioned to desist from such negative acts as culprits would be arrested and prosecuted to serve as deterrent to others.

Attackers strike Burkina Faso capital

Gunfire and an explosion have been heard near the army headquarters and the French embassy in the capital of Burkina Faso, Ouagadougou.

Witnesses have reported seeing armed men getting out of a car and opening fire before heading towards the embassy.

"An attack is under way," the French ambassador tweeted.

Pictures from the scene show a cloud of black smoke rising into the sky. It is unclear who is behind the violence.

The national police have issued a statement saying special forces are in action.

A statement on the French embassy's Facebook page said it was not clear which locations were being targeted.

It appears to be a twin assault as the city's military barracks and the embassy – which is also near the prime minister's office – are about one kilometre (half a mile) apart.

Mayor Armand Béouindé told France's Le Monde newspaper that the attackers shot at the town hall and his office windows were shattered. "Apparently, it is a jihadist attack," he said, but gave no further details.

Ouagadougou has suffered two major attacks by Islamist militants in the last two years.

The West African country also saw a failed coup in 2015. The trial for dozens of the alleged perpetrators began earlier this week but was suspended after defence lawyers walked out in protest against the military court.

How to deal with anxiety about a new relationship?

0

Getting into a new relationship for the first time in a while can be daunting. In this article, Beauty and Tips takes a look at a few ways in which you can minimise the anxiety.

When we get into a new relationship for the first time in a while, it’s normal to experience a number of wide-ranging emotions. These can range from giddy excitement to nerves to full-on anxiety and stress. There are questions we ask, such as: How do we know the other person is really interested in us? What if they soon get bored and this was just a passing phase for them? Do they like us as much as we like them?

We also worry about having to leave our comfort zone, having to commit to someone and having to change our lives around a bit and adapt to a new person. The feelings and emotions we experience aren’t all that different to the ones we feel when we experience other forms of upheaval, whether that includes a change of career or moving to a new city. Here are some of the things you might be experiencing right now:
Fear of a loss of control
Desperation
Sleeplessness
Heart palpitations
Neediness
Possessiveness
The last two are especially hard for us to deal with. If we haven’t been in a relationship for a while, it’s normal to get so scared that it will soon end that we become needy and a bit possessive. We desperately try to find out how the other person is feeling, look for a sign of how much they like us and so on. This can cause us to text too often, to request more and more phone calls and to see them all the time. This doesn’t mean you’re a naturally needy person, it just means that you might be experiencing new relationship anxiety and finding it hard to deal with. For the sake of the relationship and your own peace of mind, it’s very important that you get a grip on your emotions as soon as possible. Here is how to deal with anxiety about a new relationship.

Relax

It’s very easy to tell someone to relax but it’s not always easy to relax ourselves. The thing is that constantly asking yourself “what if?” won’t change anything. If you two met on an online dating site, you could drive yourself crazy asking if the other person is still talking to someone else online. However, just asking yourself that question won’t do you any favours. Instead, you need to rescind control. There are things you can’t change but there are things you can make worse. For example, if you nag the other person about whether or not they’re talking to someone else or if they like you, they will eventually get annoyed and you’ll ruin a good thing. Moreover, the things we spend most of our time worrying about rarely turn out to have any truth to them. Relax, be happy that someone says they like you and take each moment as it comes.

Stay Grounded With your Expectations

Ever got into a new relationship with someone and got super duper excited about them…only to discover after a week or so that they can’t match the vision you had of them in your head? This is especially true where online dating is concerned. We fall for the person on the screen, dream up fantasies of what they might be like in person…and then you can get a bit disappointed when they can’t match said fantasies. It’s a shame but this is why you need to stay grounded and keep your expectations in check. If you build the other person up too much in your head, you’re only going to end up disappointed. Enjoy being with someone new and like them for who they are, but not for who you want them to be. If you do this, there’s a much better chance that the relationship will last and you will also soon discover that you actually love who they really are.

Have Trust

Without wanting to get all Zen, it’s important that you trust the process. It’s so easy to obsess and overthink when we get into a new relationship with someone. And when we obsess and overthink, we ruin what could otherwise have been a good thing. Have faith. Have trust that this will all work out. Let nature run its course. Don’t panic and rush things. Don’t obsess.

Don’t Be Scared of Rejection

Hey, sometimes things don’t work out. Sometimes a new relationship doesn’t make it past a few weeks. Don’t sweat about this. Don’t take it as a sign that you’re being rejected. Instead, understand that not everyone is compatible. At first, the initial rush of excitement can mask incompatibility. We get along well with someone, seemingly gel with them…but then reality hits as we realise that, actually, we’re not right for each other. It’s MUCH better that you discover this as soon as possible. Don’t fear it. If two people weren’t right for each other, that’s just the way it is. It only means that there is someone else out there for you.

Don’t Read Their Mind

None of us are mind readers. So how come we spend so much of our time trying to read our new partner’s mind and second guessing what they’re thinking?! Many of us do this. We get into a new relationship with someone, and if they don’t directly tell us that they’re having a good time with us, we try to read their minds to guess how they’re feeling. And, of course, all our guesses are negative. But know this: Just as you’re trying to read their mind, they’re probably trying to read yours! If something truly is bothering you, pipe up and ask them a question. Otherwise, stop playing the mind reading game. It’s incredibly stressful. It’s the same when they don’t text back for a while. Don’t second guess their reasons. Just accept that they will text eventually.

Do you have other tips on how to beat new relationship anxiety?

Stay happy!

Stolen waters are sweet but…

0

“Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant. But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.”― Proverbs 9:17-18 [KJV]

Cheating seems fun. Using the backdoor can be sweet and stress-free. Bread eaten in secret can really be pleasant, especially when it was stolen. There’s nothing as relieving as getting on a silver platter what others are striving to get on a “stone platter”.

Back in high school, when others were burning the midnight candles, a few others invested their time in chasing after leaked papers. Learning seemed too much of a chore for them. After all, no one wanted to go through the eye of a needle when there was an alternative route of a larger backdoor. What mattered most was reaching the destination anyway.

Those who cheated their way through passed their exams all the same. They furthered their education just like everyone. Thing is, cheating almost has no short-term effect― of course, unless one is caught. Stolen waters are sweet because the thief, for a moment, thinks he has outwitted everyone.

As these colleagues progressed in life, they gave no thoughts to the long-term effect of their cheating prowess. Though they excelled in their exams, little did they know they had a weak foundation of understanding. Cheating may make you appear excellent momentarily but it doesn’t take away your ignorance. Stolen waters may quench your thirst briefly but you may have to keep stealing to appear satisfied!

The big picture of our cheating colleagues is what we see today in society― professionals who commit unpardonable errors. The long-term effect of cheating is when doctors and nurses unintentionally lead patients to their untimely grave because of negligence. Cheating bears fruit when our buildings collapse because professionals involved don’t know their jobs too well. Cheating is cheap but has expensive effects!

Stolen waters are sweet for a moment because no one ever thinks of the big picture. When we cheat our way to the top, our foundation becomes weak. Our successes only hang by a thread. Bread eaten in secret seems pleasant because we refuse to look ahead for the rippling consequences.

Sad to say, many are cheating in many spheres of their life, especially marriage. With all sorts of excuses, many have found a cunning way to justify why they can’t stick anymore to the promises they made to others on the altar. Ironically, we do expensive weddings but treat our marriage vows cheap!

There’s no justification whatsoever for cheating. The grass is only green where it is watered. Whatever you find attractive wherever, you can work your spouse out to have it, too. We don’t go looking for greener pastures outside our home when our homes could have been greener at a little watering. When you see grass all green, it didn’t just happen. Someone did the watering and maintenance!

Every marriage should run on the wheels of the golden rule― do unto others just as you would have them do unto you. If you would ever throw tantrums should you get to know your spouse was cheating, don’t cheat, too. Your spouse is your body. If no one ever hurts their body, no one should ever go down a lane that would hurt their spouse.

A chunk of marriages today are wobbly because of the unending cheating episodes. Cheating on your partner is like building an expensive mansion and tearing it down again with your hands. When we cheat on others, we lose their trust. If there’s no trust in a relationship, its future is predictably doomed.

Trust is a mine. Guard it with all you have. Without it, there’s no marriage!

If we lose the trust of our spouses, they tend to suspect us at the least opportunity. Their hearts are barely at peace. They will spend investments to track us. When couples lose trust, they can sometimes even harbor revenge against each other. Listen. Marriage is supposed to be a beautiful romance story… not an action movie of vengeance!

Cheating may seem fun but it will do more harm than good. Ironically, it is always the cheat who gets cheated in the end. Stolen water may seem sweet but in the end it may choke us. When all is said and done, we end up drowning in unnecessary scandals and sometimes, untold poverty.

The moral standards of our generation are quickly falling. Mind you, it all begins from the home. When parents are playing cheating games, they leave no exemplary footprints for their children to follow. Our children will only be a reflection of us.

The fight against corruption should begin in our homes. The moral standards we set there is the best anti-corruption campaign message we can preach to our children. Our stolen waters may be sweet to us but such a bitter experience for them.

While you may only be thinking of the short-term fun of cheating, spare some time to have a look at the bigger picture, too. Look at the bigger picture of the ill consequences on your family. Perceive the bigger picture of how flirting weakens society’s moral fiber.

Stolen waters may be sweet but no one may ever tell you that the seeds you sow in the dark… will bear fruit in the day. Though we may sow our seeds under the cover of darkness, the harvest will be bare for all to see. Chew on this!
