Affordable houses: Ga West MCE warns encroachers

Affordable
Mr Clement Wilkinson, MCE for Ga West

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ga West Municipal Assembly, Mr Clement Wilkinson has cautioned residents living around Odumase/Nsakina in the Ga West Municipality who have encroached some 76 acres of lands which were released to a private company by government to build affordable houses to stay off the lands.

According to him, the land was released to Agu Resources Ghana Limited over ten years ago to build some affordable houses for some government workers but a few years down the lane, people have encroached the lands, leaving them with only a little over 30 acres.

The MCE gave the warning when he toured the area with the management of the Agu Resources Ghana Limited and the media at Odumase/Nsakina.

“11 years ago when they had the contract, it wasn’t that they did not want to start the project but there were issues with the lands and anytime they decided to start work, they were attacked by landguards. Because they did not want any violence they held on, but this time around, when they wanted to start, they came and I decided to visit the lands to see why they were always attacked.”

Mr Clement Wilkinson who expressed worry over the encroachment therefore urged the encroachers to vacate the lands in order to pave way for the commencement of the affordable houses.

The MCE also pleaded with the chiefs and residents of Odumase/Nsakina to support the project when the contracted company moves to site .

“If there is any encroachment on the lands, it means it was not sold to them by an outsider but those who were around, if not, I will appeal to all the Chiefs and Elders to support the contractors to do their work.”

He urged encroachers who have proper documents to go to the assembly with their documents for negotiations before demolition of their structures begin.

“If anyone feels threatened by the work of Agu Resources Ghana Limited, my doors are opened, they can come so that we discuss it. But for now, it is only Agu Resources Ghana Limited that has come and I do not know anyone who has a building here, but I am open for any discussions,” he added.
