Tension has gripped Avedakpa in the Akatsi North District following a dispute over the venue for the grand launch of the seventh edition of the Avenor-Tutudo Za festival.
Chiefs and elders from Akatsi South reportedly faced resistance from some residents over plans to hold the launch at Avega.
The Akatsi South delegation maintains that it is only using the location for the festival launch and is not laying claim to the land.
However, residents of Avedakpa insist that the venue does not belong to the group and have moved to prevent the event from taking place.
The disagreement has led to heightened tension in the area, prompting the deployment of more than 100 police officers to maintain law and order.
Togbe Tete Good of Akatsi South has also intervened to engage residents and help calm the situation.
Discussions were ongoing at the time of filing this report to determine whether the festival launch would proceed as planned or be postponed.
The Avenor-Tutudo Za festival is an annual event that brings together chiefs and residents to celebrate the culture and heritage of the area.
