Ayawaso by-election:” Our candidate is traumatized” – NDC

The National Democratic Congress says their candidate for the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election, Kwasi Delali Brempong, is traumatized following the acts of violence at the constituency hence the withdrawal of his candidature.

The National Chairman for the NDC, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, in a press briefing at the residence of their candidate, stated that the NDC has lost confidence in the security agencies. He noted that the NDC is a law abiding party and which would not want innocent people to shed blood because of a by-election.

“We have reviewed the situation. Aside calls from several other parts of the constituency and the attacks and intimidation being meted unto our agents, we had no other option than to re-call our party agents from the constituency… we felt that this seat is not more important than any single life that will be lost.”, he fumed.

The NDC pulled out of the ongoing Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election shortly after reports of some acts of violence emanated from the La-Bawaleshie polling station in the constituency.

Ms. Lydia Seyram Alhassan, NDC; William Dowokpor, PPP, and Clement Boadi of the LPG, are currently contesting for the Ayawaso West Wuogon seat.

The by- elections at the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency currently is underway.

This exercise is to elect a new Member of Parliament to replace the late NPP’s Emmanuel Kyeremanteng Agyarko who passed on in November.

88,000 voters are expected to cast their ballots in the by-election.
