Ballot tampering: Police arrest EC officials

The two officers who tempered with the presidential ballot papers in Awutu Senya and Bawku Central have been arrested by the Police, the EC has said in a statement.

The two officers, whose names were given as Mary Adatsi of the DA JHS Twinnie B1101041 in the Awutu Senya West Constituency and Ahmed Shafawu of the Alhaji Salam Grinding mill polling station in Bawku Central, are currently in police custody.

Pictures of ballot papers which have been tampered with went viral on social media on Monday afternoon during the voting process.

The EC says the presidential ballot paper for the 2020 general election has twelve candidates and that for a correctly thumb printed ballot paper to be considered valid and counted, all candidates must be on the ballot paper.

“ The commission entreats all its staff and field officials to let the truth guide them and integrity, preserve them as they continue with this important exercise. We also urge political and party and candidates agents and the general public to be vigilant to ensure a free, fair, credible and transparent general elections”, the EC said in a statement.
