My second penalty against Uruguay  was very crucial to my career – Asamoah Gyan

Asamoah Gyan, the former captain of the Black Stars, expressed his worry and reflections on the 2010 World Cup encounter against Uruguay, in which he missed a crucial penalty kick in the final seconds of the game.

The legend was available for a one-on-one interview with Atinka TV on the  “KICK OFF SHOW” hosted by Edward Akuffo.

In response to the event, Gyan said, “If I was not given another second chance to play another penalty kick and score, it would have been the end of my football career.”

Asamoah Gyan had the opportunity to propel Ghana into the semi-finals potentially making them the first African Country to achieve such a milestone but it was unsuccessful.

Gyan’s failure to convert the penalty in the last minute of extra time led to Uruguay’s victory in the subsequent penalty shootout, denying Ghana the chance to progress. ‘Initially I was down but I recovered after I scored’ he stressed.

He pinpointed how he was hurt because all Ghanaians were looking up to him to make a difference.

According to Gyan he started football at a tender age and realized football was his everything at age nine.

Asamoah Gyan believed he was at his peak in football before and during the 2010 World Cup looking at his performance in his club (Sunderland) and black stars.

He concluded that although he has stopped playing football, his love for football will never cease.
