Bernard Mornah wins PNC flagbearer slot

Bernard Anbataayela Mornah last Saturday won the People’s National Convention (PNC) Flagbearer race, securing 1,138 votes at the party’s congress held across the country.

Monarh’s triumph over his opponent, David Apasera, who garnered just 216 votes, makes him the PNC’s presidential candidate for the upcoming national elections.

In his victory speech, Mornah called for unity within the party, emphasizing the need to break the dominance of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ghana’s political landscape. He rallied party members to come together and work towards ending the NPP-NDC duopoly, which has controlled Ghana’s political scene for decades.

“We are not only going to contest the 2024 election” – Mornah said.

Mornah also drew attention to the significance of the election date, 7th September, noting its resonance with key dates in Ghana’s political calendar: 7th December, the general election date, and 7th January, the swearing-in day for elected presidents.

He took the opportunity to pay homage to two iconic figures in Ghanaian political history—Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and PNC founder Dr. Hilla Liman—highlighting their contributions to the nation and the party.

Samson Asaki Awingobit was elected as the National Chairman of the PNC.
