BoG heightening risk levels in local banks – Adongo

Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo, has accused the Bank of Ghana (BoG) of making conscious efforts to kill Ghana’s local banking industry.

According to the law maker, the conduct and inactions of the Bank of Ghana is fueling heightened systemic risks and worsening confidence in the banking sector of Ghana which needs immediate redress.

In an interview with Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive, Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo, mentioned that the GCB  has not filed its audited financial statements with the Bank of Ghana in accordance with section 90(2) of the Banks and Special Deposit Institutions Act 2016, Act 930.

He added that that the BOG has, however, remained silent on this breach and has not made any efforts to ensure that the breach will not have any toll on the broader banking sector given the size and stature of GCB in the financial markets of Ghana.

“ I am a representative of my constituents and a stakeholder of the banking sector, and I want to know among other things how much BOG/Government paid to GCB Bank for the takeover of the selected assets and liabilities of UT/Capital as well as the full details and features of instruments that were used for the payment”, he said.

He asked BoG and the government to address the problems of the banking sector without politicizing it.
