Portia ‘Ama Niggs’ Nkrumah, a second-year General Arts student from Edinaman Senior High (EDISEC), has made history by winning the Best Girls’ Athlete award at the Super Zonal 2025 competition.
Hailing from Abrem Agona Ankase in the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem (KEEA) area of the Central Region, Portia’s impressive performance is a testament to her hard work and dedication.
Last year, Portia participated the inter-school competition, securing 2nd place in the 400m and 1st place in the 800m events. She was also part of the 4x400m relay team and the medley team. At the Super Zonal competition, she placed 5th in the 400m and 2nd in the 800m events.
Portia’s coach, Santa Otoo Giggs, who recognized her potential, decided to transition her from middle-distance and long-distance events to sprinting. This strategic move paid off, as Portia went on to excel in various competitions, including the UCC Inter-Hall Athletics competition and the Edinaman Senior High (EDISEC) Inter-House Athletics competition.
At the Super Zonal 2025 competition, Portia dominated the track, winning 1st place in the 200m, 400m, and medley events, while securing 2nd place in the 4x400m and 800m events. Her impressive performance earned her the top spot ahead of her closest competitor, Dufie from Effutu Senior High Technical.

Portia’s Nicky, Ama Niggs is a name coined by her coach’s Nicky, Santa Giggs, who shares the same day of birth (Saturday) with her. With her remarkable achievements, Portia ‘Ama Niggs’ Nkrumah is sure to make a lasting impact in the world of athletics.
