Covid-19: MoH, GHS debunk reports that Sputnik V, AstraZeneca ineffective for new strain

The Ministry of Health (MoH) and the Ghana Health Services (GHS) have refuted claims that the Sputnik V, and the AstraZeneca Vaccines are not effective against the new strain of Covid-19.

This comes after reports were making rounds that the Sputnik V, AstraZeneca Vaccines are not effective for the new strain of covid-19.

Answering to such claims in a statement, the MOH and GHS said,“On the issue of vaccines, reports that Sputinik-V and AstraZeneca vaccines are bot effective against the Delta strain of SARS-Cov-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19) are untrue.”

Rather, the MOH and GHS, said the variants sequenced from samples of positive cases at the Airport do not necessarily end up in the community.

“As of now, the country has detected six Delta variants of the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19 virus) from all samples taken between April and June, 2021 at the ports of entry. No Delta Variant has been detected from samples taken from cases in the community.
