COVID-19: Schools to resume on January 15

From the 15th of January 2021, both public and private schools will resume, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has ordered.

According to him, students from Kindergarten to JHS will all start school on the said date.

President Akufo-Addo said all SHS 1 students will resume classes on the 10th of March 2021 whiles the SHS 2 and 3 students resume on the 18th of January 2021.

He also noted that the SHS 3 and SHS 1 students will no longer run the double track system.

He said the expansion of infrastructure in various schools over the past three years has brought us to this development.

However, he said the double track system will still be applicable to SHS 2 students.

For Tertiary institutions, President Akufo-Addo said students should be in school by Saturday, 9th January 2021.

He said Government will ensure all schools, both public and private are fumigated and disinfected before the students go back to school.

He said schools with their own hospitals will be equipped with PPEs whiles those without health facilities will be marked to external ones.

“There will be for now, no mass gatherings, and no sporting activities however, religious activities for students under the new protocols will be permitted. Social distancing and wearing of face masks must become the norm in our schools,” he said.

He also added that government will provide Face masks, tissues, hand sanitizers, soaps and veronica buckets to schools to facilitate the safety of students.

He said government will from monday, January 4th 2021 commence a series of sensitisation campaigns to inform, educate parents, guardians and students on further modalities associated with the reopening.

He urged all to adhere strictly to the protocols.
