EC boss defends reassignment of Dr. Serebour Quaicoe

Jean Mensa, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana, addressed concerns in Parliament regarding the reassignment of Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, formerly Director of Electoral Services, to the position of Director of Trainings.

Madam Jean Mensa, acknowledged the significance of field officers’ performance in ensuring the success of elections and emphasized the EC’s decision to bolster its training department.

She highlighted that Dr. Quaicoe, known for his prominent role in public engagements, was chosen to lead this transformation due to his extensive experience and competencies.

Jean Mensah expressed confidence that enhancing the training department under Dr. Quaicoe’s leadership would yield positive outcomes, stressing the importance of updated training manuals and the introduction of short educational videos.

These measures, she asserted, are designed to equip EC staff, particularly the over 10,000 temporary officials, with the necessary skills and confidence to perform effectively on Election Day.

The reassignment of Dr. Quaicoe, however, faced criticism from various quarters
Critics questioned the timing and rationale behind the move, raising concerns about potential disruptions and the impact on electoral preparedness.

Despite the backlash, Mensah defended the decision as crucial for strengthening internal capacities and ensuring that all EC personnel are well-prepared to execute their duties impartially and competently during the upcoming December elections.
