Jean Mensah, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana, outlined comprehensive preparations for the upcoming December 7 elections, emphasizing innovations aimed at enhancing transparency and accessibility.

Briefing Parliament on preparations towards this year’s elections, she said the EC will introduce an electronic exhibition of the voters register. This groundbreaking move will allow citizens to verify their registration details directly via their mobile phones for a nominal fee.

Scheduled initially for August 15-21, the voter exhibition exercise has been rescheduled to August 24-27, spanning all of Ghana’s polling stations.

Mensah underscored that this electronic register will be accessible from August until Election Day, marking a significant step towards modernizing Ghana’s electoral processes.
She assured Parliament that all preparations, including the recruitment of approximately 10,000 temporary officials such as returning officers and verification officers, have been completed.

These officials have been documented in a newly established database, which includes personal details such as names, photographs, voter ID numbers, and residential addresses, aimed at eliminating ambiguities and enhancing accountability.

Mrs. Mensa affirmed EC’s commitment to transparency, expressing confidence that the new measures will ensure a seamless electoral process characterized by credibility and efficiency.

As Ghana gears up for the December polls, the introduction of the electronic voter register stands poised to revolutionize voter verification, setting a precedent for future electoral practices in the country.
