Fire at Darling Lemon: No casualties recorded

Despite the magnitude of the fire outbreak that occurred at the factory of GMR Industries Limited, at Weija, which destroyed valuables running into millions of Ghana Cedis, no casualties were recorded at the scene.
Although some of the workers had minor or little cuts, it has been reported that they are all doing well after the fire outbreak.
According to eyewitnesses who are also workers at the factory, the fire which occurred at one side of the factory and extended to the others started after 10 p.m. on Monday, 11th May 2020 after power was restored after lights out.
Some of the items lost through the outbreak include cartons of alcoholic drinks, about 600 gallons of alcohol, sanitizers, production machines, and other production equipment.
The whole building was also burnt such that nothing was left to pick for future use.
When the Atinka News team visited the factory, it was identified that the fire which started around 10 pm was still being controlled by the Fire Service Personnel even at 12. p.m the following day.
Although the fire service personnel refused to speak to the team, it was reported by eyewitnesses that more than 20 tenders were used to control the fire.
Speaking to the Marketing Manager of GMR Industries Limited, also producers of Darling Lemon Alcoholic Beverage, Xplode energy drink and Kiri non-alcoholic beverage, Banjamin Bokovi Komi, he explained that although the fire service went to the scene on time with one fire tender, they could not control the fire immediately and therefore had to call for more.
“I was called that the factory was under fire and I quickly rushed to the factory. The fire service personnel came in with one vehicle but could not control the fire with only one and had to call for more to come in. No casualties were recorded, some of the workers had little injuries but we are all doing very well. We have lost a lot but we are praying that things get back to normal in the shortest possible time so that we can go back to normal production,” he said.
Banjamin Bokovi Komi also assured its customers the company still has products in stock and therefore can meet all requests, encouraging the public, especially its customers to continue doing business with GMR Industries Limited.
A Marketing Consultant for GMR Industries Limited, Daniel Eduah also expressed hope that the place is put in order in the shortest possible time for production to begin.
