Fire guts Ashaiman Market on Independence Day

Five persons sustained various degrees of injuries during a fire outbreak that gutted the Ashaiman Market on March 6th 2019.

Goods worth millions of Ghana Cedis were destroyed by the fire which reportedly started on a slow note and soon spread to surrounding areas.

Items destroyed include designer clothes, second hand clothes, dryers, food items among others.

According to an eye witness, Stephen Bernard Donkor, the fire started around 7.a.m but was brought under control after 9.30.a.m.

Although the cause of fire is unknown, he said that a team from the ECG Ashaiman visited the scene to monitor proceedings.

He also said that due to the 62nd anniversary celebrations, there was no police or fire service personnel at the scene, adding that it took the intervention of the people around to quench the fire.

Meanwhile, Stephen identified that the regent of Ashaiman, Nii Annang Adzor, accompanied by the Queen, Naa Amui II, also visited those affected by the disaster and assured them of plans to cushion them.

The victims, however, he said could not help control themselves as they wailed over the lost items.

For those who sustained injuries, Stephen said that they are currently on admission at the Tema General Hospital.
