Fire razes 8 shops in Takoradi

 
About 8 stores were destroyed by fire on Friday night at Takoradi close to the famous Market Circle.
The fire according to an eyewitness started around 11 and swept through 8 stores stocked with goods worth thousands of Ghana Cedis
Bags of rice, bottles of water, boxes and gallons of cooking oil, boxes of biscuits, diapers, bags of sugar, clothes, suites, among other items were burnt in the inferno.
Speaking to Atinkaonline, the eyewitness said a smoke was seen emanating from the roof of one of the shops which was a provision shop wholesale and lit up the whole shops.
He said, it took the fire fighters several hours to report to the scene.
The Western Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Fire Service, DO3 Emmanuel Bonney, in an interview said, they received a distressed call concerning the inferno and quickly rushed to the scene.
He said seven fire thunders were used to douse the fire.
The cause of the fire according to the PRO is unknown.
The Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah who also visited the scene appealed to the insurance companies who provide insurance coverage to some shops to hasten the processes to bring back the shops to operations.
He also advised banks which have been working with some shops to assist the with loans to boost their come back.
