Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, met with the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential aspirants in a bid to promote unity ahead of the party’s upcoming primaries, scheduled for January 31, 2026.
The closed-door meeting, held in Accra, brought together all five aspirants vying for the party’s flagbearer position. Addressing the candidates, former President Akufo-Addo expressed his gratitude to them for taking time off their campaign schedules to attend the meeting, describing their presence as a testament to their shared commitment to the party’s collective interest and future.
He commended the aspirants for their individual contributions to the NPP and to national development, noting that their candidacies are rooted in merit and a demonstrated commitment to service. He urged them to focus their campaigns on issues and policy ideas, rather than personal attacks, in order to uphold the party’s values and credibility.
Reaffirming his dedication to fostering unity within the party, Akufo-Addo stressed the importance of supporting the eventual flagbearer as the NPP gears up for the 2028 general elections. He emphasized that internal cohesion and a fair, transparent primary process are crucial to the party’s success.
In a display of solidarity, the five aspirants reportedly pledged to conduct their campaigns in a healthy and competitive manner, and to rally behind whichever candidate emerges victorious in the primaries.
The former president concluded by thanking the aspirants for their cooperation and called on both the candidates and the party’s leadership to ensure a free and fair election process, warning that only through unity can the NPP retain the trust of Ghanaians.
