Mr Dwumfour was among the few people who were identified and awarded at the 12th Dialogue and Peace Iftar Dinner organized by TUDEC – an international development and humanitarian organization with support from the Peace Council and the Ghana Government.

Mr. Dwumfour received recognition for his steadfast advocacy and commitment to ensuring journalists in Ghana receive justice.

Following his receipt of the award, the President of the GJA expressed gratitude to TUDEC and the Peace Council for their recognition of his endeavors. He gave the assurance that the present administration of the Ghana Journalists Association will persistently strive towards enhancing the country’s democracy.

He emphasized the importance of journalists exercising caution when carrying out their responsibilities, which include preventing the dissemination of hate speech and misinformation and educating and informing the public, among other things.

Additionally, he urged journalists throughout the nation to verify their information before publishing to avert any potential unrest preceding, during, and following the December elections.

The president, known for his forthright nature, firmly believed that the present administration would not tolerate any type of journalistic unprofessionalism. He specifically mentioned the condemnation of certain journalists’ unethical behavior during the recent passing of John Kumah, the Deputy Finance Minister and Member of Parliament for the Ejisu Constituency, which occurred prior to the family becoming aware of the news.

Additionally, Mr. Dwumfour issued a warning to unscrupulous politicians, warning them to abstain from targeting journalists throughout the electoral process, lest they encounter severe repercussions from the Association.

An annual occasion co-hosted by the Ghana Peace Council and TUDEC, the 12th Dialogue and Peace – Iftar Dinner brings together representatives from diverse faith and religious organizations to engage in scholarly discourse about matters of national unity and peace.

Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, running mate to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the 2024 Elections, John Mahama expressed her appreciation in a brief statement for the endeavors of TUDEC in consistently coordinating the peace dialogue, which provides an opportunity for Ghanaians to reflect on their contributions towards a harmonious Ghana.

She urged all individuals to value the current state of calm in the nation and abstain from engaging in any type of violent behavior.

“As we get ready for this year’s election, let us all individually do our part to ensure that peace prevails before, during, and after the elections. A peaceful Ghana is in the interest of all of us,” she stated.
