Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) have prevented a DAF truck from being completely destroyed by fire at Ayensudo, near Aroma International School, along the Cape Coast–Takoradi Road.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, August 5, 2026, after the truck, which was transporting marble stones from Takoradi to Cape Coast, caught fire.
According to the GNFS, a distress call was received at 2:28 a.m. from a Customs Division patrol team reporting the fire.
A firefighting crew was immediately dispatched and arrived at the scene at 2:39 a.m.
Upon arrival, the firefighters found the DAF truck engulfed in flames and quickly deployed a hose line to bring the situation under control.
The fire was brought under control at 3:32 a.m., while firefighters continued their operations until it was completely extinguished at 4:47 a.m.
Burst tyre suspected to have caused fire
Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire started after one of the truck’s rear tyres burst.
The driver, identified as Mr. Ernest, reportedly parked the vehicle to inspect the damaged tyre after the incident.
It was during the inspection that he noticed flames coming from the vehicle and immediately called for assistance.
The prompt response by the GNFS prevented the fire from spreading further and saved the truck from being completely destroyed.
Although the vehicle was affected by the fire, the GNFS said its timely intervention helped minimise the extent of the damage.
No casualties were recorded in the incident.
The GNFS continues to urge motorists and commercial vehicle operators to exercise caution on the roads and ensure that their vehicles, particularly tyres and other critical components, are regularly inspected and maintained to prevent fires and other road-related emergencies.
