Government commends ADB for supporting its Planting for food and jobs initiative

The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) has commended the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) for supporting the Ghana government on its planting for food and jobs, and rearing for food and jobs initiative.
According to the Ministry, ever since government began its planting for food and jobs initiative, ADB has supported the government and continues to support other initiatives irrespective of the challenges confronting the bank.
Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Food and Agriculture at the ADB Poultry Value Chain Stakeholders meeting in Accra today, the Technical Adviser to the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Mr. Emmanuel Asante Krobea noted that government alone cannot support farmers in rolling out the planting for food and jobs initiative which seeks to support both small and large scale farmers and therefore ADB’s intervention has solved about 70 percent of government’s problems.
At the meeting, the ADB disbursed a loan facility of about GHC23 million to poultry farmers in Ghana, specifically in the Bono Region.
The move is to increase chicken production and cut out its imports in the country.
Mr. Emmanuel Asante Krobea admitted that ADB’s support to the poultry farmers will go a long way to promote government’s ‘rearing for food’ initiatives.
He urged beneficiaries to put the resources into good use so that others can also benefit from the project in future.
