Gov’t celebrating 25 years of democracy apt – Expert

A political Science lecturer at the Methodist University College, Dr. Osei Bonsu, has lauded the government for celebrating the Silver Jubilee of the Fourth Republic, describing the act as fulfilling.

The government on Sunday 7th January 2018 celebrated the country’s 25 years in democracy. The event was marked with a thanksgiving service at the Independence Square in Accra.

The event, which was under the theme “Celebrating the goodness of the Lord” was meant to recognize the country’s steady democratic regime over the past 25 years.

Speaking to Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive, Political Science Lecturer at the Methodist University College, Dr. Osei Bonsu, stated that before the democratic rule, Ghana’s political history was characterized with military regime throwing the country into constant chaos.

According to him, democracy in Ghana after 25 years has transformed the country and deserves to be celebrated.

Comparing military regime to 25 years of democratic rule, Dr. Osei Bonsu, explained that economic mismanagement was the main reason for military coup d’états.

He added that after 25 years, successive governments have done well in managing the affairs of the country not for the fear of a coup d’états but the fear of being removed from power in the next election by the ordinary Ghanaian.      “Ghana is yet to have selfless leaders since successive governments tend to see political sphere as an investments other than a duty to serve the nation”, he opined.
