GPHA’s Esther Gyebi Donkor wins African Ports Award

Celebrated Maritime Strategist and General Manager in charge of Marketing and Corporate Affairs at the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), Esther Gyebi Donkor has chalked yet another feat after emerging as the best Woman in Strategic Project Management in the Maritime and Ports Sector at the 7th Edition of the African Ports Awards.

The prestigious Awards ceremony which came off successfully in Lagos, Nigeria on the 9th of November 2023, acknowledged Mrs Esther Gyebi Donkor’s outstanding contribution to the successful implementation of the Paperless Port System within the Ports of Ghana.

Madam Esther Gyebi Donkor a leading name in the Ghanaian Maritime Sector, is known to have played a pivotal role as a member of the National Committee for the Paperless Port Project under the supervision of Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia that saw GPHA executing the system to its full capacity.

Madam Esther Gyebi Donkor is also credited for the transformation and success story of the Golden Jubilee Terminal, a Terminal under the watch of the GPHA, where she once served as the first Female Terminal Manager. Her tenure saw the Port of Tema being recognized as the best-managed Port in West Africa and Central Africa at the maiden Africa Ports Awards.

Being the president of the Network for Profesional Women in the Maritime and Ports Sectors of West and Central Africa from 2013 to 2017, her transformational leadership birthed the Ghana Chapter of the Network in 2023 and also a special recognition from the Head of Government of the Canarias Island in 2014 in Las Palmas.

A recipient of the African Spanish Maritime Port Women’s Conference Award in October 2023, Mrs. Esther Gyebi Donkor is also credited for her pioneering role in bringing transformational change and giving women a voice in the Maritime sector.

Other honorees at the 7th African Ports Awards in Lagos Nigeria, also included the Director General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, Michael Luguje who was honored with a special incentive award.

GPHA as an Institution was awarded the Best Port in Integrated Management Port System Policy, while the Port of Tema took home the bragging right as the best Port in import and export and container traffic, cementing GPHA’s unmatched commitment to promoting excellence in the Maritime sector.
