The Greater Accra Regional Hospital was a hive of activity yesterday as it hosted a vibrant and impactful Open Day Celebration aimed at strengthening community engagement, deepening partnerships, and highlighting the outstanding work taking place within the facility.
In his address, the Medical Director, Dr. Leslie Issa Adam-Zakariah, expressed immense pride in steering an institution committed to quality healthcare, innovation, and compassion.
He underscored a critical challenge facing the hospital—its persistently high bed occupancy rate of over 95% amidst staffing constraints. Dr. Adam-Zakariah appealed to government, corporate institutions, philanthropists, and well-meaning Ghanaians for support, particularly in staff housing, completion of the Phase II project, and retooling of the facility.

He concluded by appreciating all stakeholders whose presence contributed to the success of the day.
Representing the Special Guest of Honour, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, the Director for Budget, Mr. Bless Kwame Dzake, expressed delight at being part of the event. He commended the hospital’s leadership for providing an important platform to showcase ongoing advancements in healthcare delivery.
He highlighted this year’s theme, “Promoting Healthy Living Through Partnership and Quality Care,” emphasizing the importance of collaboration in building a resilient and people-centred health system. Mr. Dzake also praised the hospital’s contributions to tertiary healthcare, emergency services, and specialized care across the region.

Chairman of the event, Adabraka Mantse, Nii Tetteh Adjabeng II, applauded the hospital for taking proactive steps to educate the public on its diverse services.
He encouraged management and staff to remain united and maintain the high standards of care for which the facility is known.
The hospital extended heartfelt appreciation to its distinguished guests—including traditional leaders, members of the clergy, students, market women, staff, and community members—for honouring the event with their presence.
Special acknowledgement was given to Dr. Lawrence Ofori-Boadu, Director for Institutional Care, as well as the Adabraka Chief Commander and his team for their strong support.
