Group rescues family of physically challenged

A charitable organization has established a source of income for the family of an amputee, putting an end to five years of economic hardship.

2P Waves Foundation, a non-profit organization that, among other things, enables the societally marginalized and people with disabilities to be financially independent, made the opportune intervention when the living conditions of the benefactor family were deteriorating.

Godfred Danquah, an Okada operator residing in Abotoase, Biakoye District, Oti Region, and his family were doing well until his tragic auto accident. Godfred was returning from his regular okada expedition on that day in April 2018 when tragedy struck.

The incident occurred at a police checkpoint near Kwamwkrom and Abotoase, when a dump truck ran over his limb during police inspections. According to Godfred, police halted three of them (okada operators) for inspection, followed shortly thereafter by a tipper truck. A few minutes later, he was instructed to move his motorcycle to make room for the vehicle. Unknowingly to him, the police signaled the truck to proceed at the same time, crushing him against the barrier.

“Even though I managed to swerve with my upper body, the truck ran over my left leg.” he intimated.

The young man fought the injury for months until it became evident that his limb could not heal, at which point he was amputated. “I was referred to a larger hospital for treatment, but I had no money because I had depleted my savings.” I could no longer endure the pain, so my limb was amputated to save my life,” he retorted.

Godfred had just given birth to his second child three days before the tragedy, which marked the beginning of their difficult financial situation.

His wife, a young nursing mother, was forced to sell Coconut to support the family, but she soon developed chest and back complaints and was forced to stop. Even one regular meal a day became prohibitively expensive as the standard of living declined.

However, after five years of sleepless nights over what to consume, how to send his three children to school, and his incapacity, Godfred decided to open up to an upcoming musician on Facebook about his situation. Even though the aspiring musician who also needs assistance to advance his music career is unable to help his physically challenged Facebook friend, he becomes the conduit for his latest benefit by informing 2P Waves Foundation.

The 2P Waves Foundation then establishes Godfred as a distributor of potable water. Not only did the foundation immediately stock Godfred’s wholesale with several bags of sachet water, but it also registered him with a production company as a distributor for the surrounding area and gave the family an undisclosed quantity of money.

Patience Bubu George, the founder of 2P Waves Foundation, told Atinkaonline that although the organization rarely interacts with individuals, the gift to Godfred was intended to secure the future of his three children, particularly their education. Miss George, who stated that the Abotoase gesture was the first of the year 2023, suggests that the Cape Coast School for the Blind and Tabita Home for the Aged in Afiaman are the next recipients of their generosity.

The foundation, therefore, pledged to track the progress of Godfred and his family’s latest business to ensure that it thrives to alleviate their economic hardship.
