Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has assured residents and businesses affected by its ongoing three-day water supply interruption that engineers and technical teams are working around the clock to complete critical pipeline replacement works and restore normal water supply as quickly as possible.
In a press release, the company said its personnel will operate continuously throughout the maintenance period to ensure the project is completed on schedule.
GWL expressed regret over the inconvenience caused by the temporary shutdown and appealed to customers in affected areas to store adequate quantities of water before the maintenance works begin and to use available supplies judiciously throughout the interruption.
The company also called on hospitals, health facilities and other essential service providers to activate contingency plans to minimise the impact of the temporary disruption. It noted that, where feasible, water tankers will be deployed to support selected critical institutions during the maintenance period.
According to Ghana Water, the pipeline replacement project is a critical investment aimed at strengthening one of the country’s most important water transmission systems.
The company explained that replacing deteriorated sections of the pipeline will significantly reduce the frequency of pipeline bursts, minimise emergency shutdowns, improve operational efficiency and enhance the long-term reliability of water supply to customers in Tema and communities along the eastern corridor of the Greater Accra Region.
GWL reaffirmed its commitment to providing safe, reliable and sustainable potable water to Ghanaians, thanking customers for their understanding, patience and cooperation while the maintenance works are underway.
The utility company further assured the public that it will continue to provide regular updates through its official communication channels and will immediately announce the full restoration of water supply once the replacement works are completed.
The maintenance exercise forms part of Ghana Water’s broader efforts to modernise ageing infrastructure and improve the resilience of water delivery systems serving thousands of households and businesses in the Greater Accra Region.
