Husband of murdered nurse suspects “contract killing”

Husband of the nurse who was murdered on her way home from work by unknown attackers at Sewua in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region suspects contract killing.
Ruth Arhin, 37, who was a mother of three was found dead few meters from her house after she failed to return home after close of work on Monday, February 3.
Two suspects have reportedly been arrested in connection with the suspected murder of Ruth Arhin Sewua in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region.
A phone found at the scene of the crime was traced to the first suspect arrested in connection to the murder.
Husband of deceased, Kojo Arhin, in an interview with Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive Monday morning explained that aside some persons contracting these assailants to kill his wife, he sees no reason why someone would want his wife dead.
According to Mr. Kojo Arhin, although petty theft is rampant in the area, they have never been attacked by armed robbers ever since they moved into their house.
“We’ve lived in the area for over 6 years and we have never been attacked by armed men in the area. I doubt my wife’s death was as a result of robbery, I strongly suspect contract killing. On the morning of her death she told me she was going to the bank so initially I thought she was followed and killed, but I strongly believe that is not the case,” he said.
Mr. Arhin also revealed that the autopsy report from the hospital has ruled out rape from the murder contrary to earlier reports.
He mentioned that per the report his wife died out of bruises and damage of the brain as a result of a heavy equipment used to hit her head.
Meanwhile, Perpertual Ofori Ampofo, President for the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwife Association, has called on the government to expedite investigations into the matter adding that nurses and midwives living in Sewua and its environs are currently living in fear over the murder.
“It’s sad that a health worker helping a community with all her heart can be killed by the same people she is trying to help, it’s sad. We will not hesitate to withdraw our services from Sewua if nurses are not protected”, she said.
Perpertual Ofori Ampofo has also called on the government to include security precautions in the conditions of Service of Nurses and Midwives.
