Ghana midfielder, Mubarak Wakaso has expressed his appreciation to CK Akonnor following his sacking as the head coach of the Black Stars.

The Ghanaian tactician on Monday had his contract with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) terminated after the national team’s defeat to South Africa in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Taking to his Twitter page today, Mubarak Wakaso wished CK Akonnor all the best and said the ex -Stars coach will succeed in his future endeavours.

“When I was a little boy in Tamale I watched you play football.

“Later, I became a ball boy/ player for Gold Fields where you played. You became my coach at the Black Stars. Thank you for everything and best of luck in your next job. I know you will succeed CK Akonnor,” Wakaso posted on his Twitter page.

The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association on Monday terminated the appointment of Black Stars CK Akonnor and his two assistants with immediate effect.

The decision followed Ghana’s abysmal performance in the ongoing World Cup qualifiers.

In a statement , the GFA said “The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association has taken a decision to terminate the appointment of Black Stars Coach Charles Akonnor and his two Assistants with immediate effect. This follows the receipt of the Technical Report from the Head Coach of the Senior National Team and the report from the Black Stars Management Committee following Ghana’s Group G World Cup qualifying matches against Ethiopia and South Africa”

According to the statement, the Executive Council after considering the two reports decided to terminate its relationship with the Head Coach C. K Akonnor and the two Assistants.

“The Executive Council has formed a three (3) Member Committee made up of Vice President Mark Addo, Upper East Regional Football Association Chairman, Alhaji Salifu Zida and Dr. Randy Abbey to find a Head Coach and Assistant Coaches for the Black Stars within the next 72 hours,” the added.

The Association wished CK Akonnor and his Assistants the very best in their future endeavours.

Ghana currently have three (3) points after the two opening matches.

The Black Stars takes on Zimbabwe in the next round of games in October 2021
