I won election not because of Gas Cylinders- NDC MP

The Member of Parliament for Twifo Atti Morkwa in the Central Region, Mr David Theophilus Vondee has refuted allegations that he won the elections at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential and Parliamentary primaries because he shared gas cylinders.

According to him, his hard work rather informed the people to vote for him and not because of the cylinders.

Mr David Theophilus Vondee, who was an aspirant at his party’s Parliamentary Primaries held on May 13, 2023 is said to have bought votes with cylinders.

A video that circulated on social media showed a truck loaded with 5-kilogram cylinders parked near the polling centre.

The Delegates were directed to go for theirs in order to vote for Mr David Theophilus Vondee.

At the end of the election, Mr David Theophilus Vondee who is already an MP won again.

After his win, a section of the public, especially his opponents at the above constituency have alleged that he won the election because of the gas cylinders he shared.

But responding to this on Atinka FM’s AM Drive, with Kaakyire Ofori Ayim, Mr David Theophilus Vondee said it was not about the cylinders but the projects he was carrying out in his constituency that won him the election.

Already, he said he has put over 3000 young men and women in vocational training.

In addition to that, he said  Twifo Atti Morkwa was predominantly a farming area where most of the farmers cut trees for domestic purpose.
Due to this, he decided to provide all of them with cylinders in order to deter them from felling trees for firewood.

Although a number of his constituents had received the cylinders, he explained that those who live far from where the election was held could not get theirs due to the distance, adding therefore that they used the opportunity to give those people theirs.

“I started this project about six months ago before the election and so if you want to add all that we have done till now, it is about 6,000 plus and so it has nothing to do with inluencing delegates to win election, if not, we would have stopped after the elections but we are still doing it,” he said.
