The campaign of New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairmanship aspirant John Boadu has welcomed the endorsement of Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, describing the decision as a significant show of confidence in Mr. Boadu’s leadership.
In a statement issued by the John Boadu Campaign Communication Directorate, the campaign expressed its appreciation to Chairman Wontumi, his campaign leadership and other stakeholders who, following what it described as “extensive consultations and careful considerations,” decided to support Mr. Boadu’s candidature for National Chairman.
“The John Boadu Campaign warmly welcomes and deeply appreciates the decision by Chairman Wontumi, his campaign leadership and all stakeholders who, after extensive consultations and careful considerations, decided to throw their full support, strength and political weight behind John Boadu’s candidature for National Chairman in the supreme interest of the New Patriotic Party,” the statement said.
The campaign said the endorsement goes beyond an individual contest, describing it as “a powerful statement of confidence in John Boadu’s leadership” and a call for unity within the NPP at what it considers a critical period in the party’s history.
“We therefore receive this support with humility, gratitude and a deep sense of responsibility,” the campaign stated.
The John Boadu campaign said it intends to work closely with Chairman Wontumi’s team and other members of the party to rebuild unity and strengthen the NPP’s organisational structures.
“We look forward to working closely with his team and all members of our great Party in the collective effort to rebuild our unity, strengthen our structures and restore the NPP to its winning ways,” the statement said.
The campaign said its ultimate objective is to position the NPP as an electorally formidable political organisation capable of returning to power in the 2029 general elections.
“Our shared objective is clear: to build an electorally formidable NPP capable of securing victory for our Party and ensuring that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is sworn in as President of the Republic of Ghana in 2029,” it stated.
According to the campaign, that objective should take precedence over individual ambitions and unite party members around what it described as the broader interests of the NPP and Ghana.
“This objective transcends individual ambitions and must unite us around the larger interest of the Party and the future of Ghana,” the statement added.
The campaign also addressed the situation involving Chairman Wontumi, assuring him that his contribution to the NPP would not be forgotten.
“At this defining moment, John Boadu wishes to assure Chairman Wontumi that his devotion, commitment and sacrifices for the Party will not be forgotten,” the campaign said.
It further pledged that a John Boadu-led NPP would work with the party’s flagbearer and its legal team to pursue what it described as all legitimate legal avenues in the pending appeal concerning Chairman Wontumi.
“A John Boadu-led NPP will work assiduously with the Flagbearer and the Party’s esteemed legal team to pursue all legitimate legal avenues in the pending appeal and advocate for the earliest possible release of Chairman Wontumi, consistent with the rule of law and due process,” the statement said.
The campaign did not provide further details on the legal proceedings but stressed that any efforts would be pursued within the framework of the law.
The campaign expressed appreciation to Chairman Wontumi’s team for supporting John Boadu’s candidature and, according to the statement, putting the collective interest of the party ahead of individual considerations.
“To Wontumi’s Team, thank you for believing in John Boadu and for putting the unity and collective interest of the NPP first,” the statement said.
It concluded with a call for party members to rally around the broader objective of rebuilding and uniting the NPP.
“Together, we shall rebuild. Together, we shall unite. Together, we shall win,” the campaign stated.
It ended with the slogan: “We have done it before. We will do it again. Let’s win together!”
