Kotoko, Hearts struggling due to poor recruitment- Fellies FC President

President of Fellies FC, Leslie Tettey, has expressed dissatisfaction with the current performance of Ghana’s leading clubs, Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko.

In an interview with Justice Adusi Opoku on the Legend Sports show, Atinka FM, Mr. Tetteh said both clubs’ standards have significantly dropped due to mismanagement by club owners.

He said Managers of both teams are not “football people” leading to the abysmal performance of both teams.

He added that scouting for players have been their main challenge as a team.

“Both teams don’t scout for the right players,” he stressed.

Touching on other challenges pertaining to Ghana football, he said, “our main challenge is lack of facilities, especially football pitches’’.

He stressed that there are more quality pitches outside Ghana and it has been his dream for Ghana to get likewise.

‘Inadequate pitches in the lower division has been a headache since the price for a pitch is very expensive to rent,’’ he added.

The vice president of the club, Kate Sonne, also outlined some challenges being faced by Division 2 sides.

She said much attention is given to the Premier League more than the lower divisions and appealed to the Ghana Football Executives to pay more attention to the lower divisions.

Kate Sonne again singled out officiating as part of the main challenge in the division.

Mr. Tetteh concluded that local players with good performance “week -in week -out” should get call-ups to the national team.

He again said generally our sports (football) is sinking and it needs a strong backup.
